Case Study: 7 Devonshire Square

Scheme

DSQ7 has undergone a full refurbishment and delivers contemporary office space with abundant terracing led by Architect, Squire & Partners. Hoare Lea were the MEP consultant tasked with providing the regenerated building performance specification, and their choice to use water-fed FCUs on each level providing a comfortable and manageable environment for the building users.

Customer

The Full Electrical Services Co Limited were successful in securing the MEP package for the Main Contractor BUILT. Advanced Air UK were approached by FES and were selected for the manufacture and supply of the FCU units. Energy efficiency was at the core of Hoare Lea’s specification requirements and components in the design had to be able to meet stringent BREEAM Outstanding and NABERS 5-star ratings.

Product and model types

The supply included different sizes (600, 900, 1200, 1500 and 1800) of our core range of FCU, the ECO270. Certain units were also adapted to include our longer attenuator units to assist with meeting the desired NR levels. The model had to be manufactured precisely and to an excellent standard as the Architect’s vision for the scheme was for the majority of major MEP components to be exposed.

Solutions

During the procurement process, Advanced Air UK were involved in detailed reviews of the MEP specification and in particular the reference to noise reduction levels required across the levels of the building, and particularly the cellular areas of each level. The ECO270 unit bore an advantage due to its superior insulation and no additional attenuation measures were required. This technical advantage allowed a cost saving to be applied to the MEP package value. Key to this was the unit’s compliance with BS8850.
