An EMS (Environmental Management System) is a systematic approach to managing an organisation’s environmental impact through which its environmental performance can be monitored, improved and controlled.
An effective EMS will:

- Ensure our operations have procedures to minimise their environmental impacts.
Benefits include:
- Cost savings.
- Reduced risk of fines for non-compliance with environmental legislation.
- Attracting shareholders and investors.
- Less waste.
- Positive social responsibility.
What does it involve?
- An assessment of how your organisation’s activities, products, processes and services might affect the environment; the development of an environmental policy.
- An environmental improvement programme.
- Written procedures to control activities with a significant environmental impact.
What are the objectives?
- To collect all waste transfer notes and make sure our waste collectors are licensed to carry and deal with waste.
- To record electricity, gas, water and waste figures throughout the year.
- To record flights, car travel and train travel (distances and types of transport used).
- To keep an improvement plan for waste reduction, energy usage (per person).
